Totally Wes Anderson Rug

I clearly remember the first time I spied the iconic Zebra pattern by Scalamandre. The year was 2001, and I was at the Regency Theater in San Francisco seeing Wes Anderson’s The Royal Tenenbaums during the film’s opening weekend. While the soundtrack, the style, and the over-the-top Wes Anderson-ness of it all totally wowed me, I for some reason became slightly obsessed with the vibrant red wallpaper the Tenebaum clan had in the New York brownstone. While I had no place to actually put it in my own home, the pattern has lived on a random wall, rent-free, in my mind ever since.

Apparently, I was a late-day fan of the pattern. Scalamandre’s “Zebras” first debuted in 1945 and has since had various iterations in terms of color, size, and usage (My Domaine has an extensive history of the pattern that you can dive into here). Since its debut, the pattern has appeared on wallpaper, drapes, pillows, clothing, slippers, umbrellas, and, now, rugs thanks to Ruggable.
