Bobby Kim X Disney – Get Them While You Can!

Have you looked at the prices of vintage Disney shirts lately? A few examples: a 90s Mickey Mouse Runaway Brain tee sold for $1750, a 1992 Aladdin shirt sold for $1000, and a Splash Mountain opening day shirt went for $895. And those are the prices if you can ACTUALLY find them.

But if you want that vintage style but without the high(er) price tag, Bobby Kim is here to help. Bobby recently joined Disney as their first-ever Creative Director for Disney Consumer Projects after his uber-successful run at his streetwear company The Hundreds. He isn’t really “designing” for the brand; it’s more his role as a curator with a strong sense of nostalgia. It’s a personal collection; he included an Oliver & Company tee since it was the first animated Disney film he ever saw in a theater.

The debut from the Bobby Kim line was an ode to Fantasia featuring Sorcerer Mickey surrounded by his co-stars from the film and a bevy of stars. The long-sleeved version debuted at the D23 Expo after a Disney Style panel, followed by a small online Disney Store sale soon after, with (reportedly) about 50,000 people virtually cueing up to buy one. Apparently, the shirt sold out FAST and is now being flipped on eBay, selling for around $250 to $390 (retail price $60).

If you want a chance to score one of the new vintage shirts at the actual retail price, not with the flipper markup, the Disney Store will launch the rest of Bobby Kim’s first line on August 20th at 9 pm. The collection includes six vintage-style designs from The Lion King’s Scar to The Little Mermaid. And you know it will probably sell out immediately; otherwise, you’ll be paying those eBay prices!
